Neck Botox for Platysma Bands: A Powerful Treatment for Neck Aging and Jowling

As an aesthetic injector, one of the things I see most often is that the neck can reveal age even before the face does. Many patients come in with smooth skin and minimal facial wrinkles, but when the neck is ignored during facial treatments, neck bands, early jowling, and skin laxity can quickly become the most noticeable signs of aging. Because the skin on the neck is thinner and constantly in motion, it tends to lose elasticity faster than the face. That’s why I always recommend including the neck as part of a comprehensive rejuvenation plan.

One of my favorite treatments for this is neck Botox for platysma bands, sometimes called a Nefertiti Lift. When done correctly, it can dramatically improve neck contour, soften vertical bands, and enhance jawline definition, all while keeping your results natural and elegant.

What Causes Neck Aging and Platysma Bands?

The platysma muscle is a thin, superficial muscle that extends from the collarbones into the jawline. Over time, this muscle becomes more active and starts pulling downward, leading to:

  • Vertical platysma bands

  • Loss of jawline definition

  • Worsening jowls

  • A tight or strained appearance of the neck

Sun exposure, genetics, collagen loss, and repetitive muscle movement all contribute to visible neck aging.

How Neck Botox Works

Botox injected into the platysma muscle relaxes this downward pull, allowing the neck and jawline to appear smoother and more lifted. Benefits of neck tox include:

  • Softening the appearance of neck bands

  • Improving overall neck contour

  • Helping reduce the appearance of early jowling

  • Enhancing jawline definition

  • Creating a longer, more elegant neck profile

Results typically begin to appear within 7–14 days and last approximately 3–4 months, depending on muscle strength and metabolism.

Can Neck Botox Help Prevent and Improve Jowls?

Yes, in the right patient, neck Botox can both improve early jowling and help prevent it from worsening. Jowls are often caused or exaggerated by the downward pull of the platysma muscle on the jawline. By relaxing this muscle, neck Botox reduces the downward tension, allowing the jawline to appear smoother, more supported, and lifted over time.

While neck Botox does not replace surgical lifting or volume replacement, it is an excellent non-surgical option for patients with early jowls or those looking to be proactive in preventing further sagging.

For optimal results, I often recommend combining neck Botox with:

  • Jawline or chin filler to restore structural support

  • DAO Botox to reduce downward pull at the corners of the mouth, which can be included in your neck botox treatment

  • Skin-tightening treatments to improve laxity and collagen production, such as microneedling

  • Medical-grade skincare to maintain skin health and elasticity

This combination approach helps ensure the face and neck age harmoniously, rather than allowing the neck to reveal age before the face.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Neck Botox?

I recommend neck Botox for patients who:

  • Notice vertical neck bands when speaking or clenching

  • Are seeing early signs of neck aging

  • Want a preventative or corrective non-surgical treatment

  • Prefer subtle, natural-looking results with minimal downtime

A personalized consultation is essential to determine the best treatment plan for your anatomy and goals.

Neck Botox at Selfie Aesthetic

At Selfie Aesthetic, we take a customized, anatomy-based approach to neck Botox treatments. The neck is always evaluated as part of the full lower face to ensure balanced, natural results that age beautifully over time.

We also carry all five FDA-approved neurotoxin brands, Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, Xeomin®, and Daxxify®, so we can choose the one that works best for your anatomy, muscle strength, and desired results. Some neurotoxins last longer, act faster, or feel softer depending on the patient, and we’re happy to use the product that fits you best.

If you’re concerned about neck bands, early jowling, or loss of jawline definition, a consultation can help determine whether neck Botox alone, or in combination with other treatments, is the right approach for your goals.
